SJI is hiring an Undergraduate Student Worker to assist our team during the Through the Portal national conference
The Social Justice Initiative at UIC is looking for an Administrative Assistant with an eye for detail to help the team with various tasks related to planning the Through the Portal national conference exploring issues of social justice.
Must be a UIC undergraduate student with previous administrative and clerical experience.
Responsibilities:
Under general supervision of a staff member, a student usually performs all or part of the following duties:
- Assists with correspondence with vendors, speakers, artists, and others on the details of unit sponsored events as assigned. This may include written correspondence as well as verbal communications.
- Assists on-site technical set-up and breakdown for events, i.e. staging. This will not involve moving really heavy equipment but boxes up to 50 lbs.
- Follows-up on publicity details on assigned events. This may include working with event presenters on marketing material distribution, including print orders off campus.
- Inquires, confirms and sets room reservations per specifications outlined by SJI staff.
- Performs various troubleshooting tasks on-site under the supervision of an SJI staff member. This might include reporting problem areas as observed on-site.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Commits to at least 15 hours per week, with special events potentially requiring additional hours.
Qualifications:
- Three (3) years of clerical experience, two of which must have included duties requiring discretion and independent judgment concerning selection and evaluation of procedure, or at least three (3) years of University course work.
- Highly organized and promptly responsive.
- Ability to communicate effectively and perform at a fast-pace in remote work setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite, including Google Docs, Slides, Sheets and Drive; profiency with Adobe DC.
