This Women's History Month, join SJI for "Echoes of Healing," a musical meditation in remembrance of Breonna Taylor on the fifth anniversary of her murder by Louisville police. Kindly click this link to RSVP.

This program is designed to foster healing and introspection through a unique experience of music and art, with performances by chamber ensemble D-Composed and flautist BSA Gold. D-Composed will present a carefully curated selection of works by Black composers, infusing the Chicago Justice Gallery with melodies that echo the depth of collective sorrow and hope. Their performance will intertwine with meditative practices, creating a sanctuary for visitors to engage with their emotions and reflect on the journey of resilience and transformation.

D–COMPOSED /DEE-KUHM-POHZD/ – ADVERB
D-Composed is a Black chamber music collective that celebrates Black culture and creativity through the music of Black composers. Their creative process involves the breaking down of preconceived notions, barriers, and opinions of what people think classical music should be to re-writing our narrative to reflect what the classical world could be.

BSA GOLD

BSA Gold is a curious interstellar traveler exploring sound, spirituality, and self-understanding through flute and electronics.

This special performance will take place in the setting of our current gallery exhibition, Echoes of Ferguson. Marking the 10th anniversary of the Ferguson uprising, the exhibition delves into the profound collective grief experienced by the Black community while exploring the ongoing impact of systemic injustice. “Echoes of Healing" offers a reflective space for contemplation and connection, through a poignant blend of music, visual art, and personal narrative.
