Our Pop Up JUST Art (PUJA) gallery serves as a portal to the neighboring communities and the larger Chicago community. It is an engaging space for students, faculty, and community members to come together to have conversations, and share strategies and insight about today’s most pressing social issues. We have diverse events at PUJA, ranging from gallery openings to community strategy sessions, to course seminars.
The Social Justice Initiative at UIC is proud to present the 2018 Pop-Up JUST Art (PUJA) gallery exhibition, Revolutionary Remnants: The Art of Protest from the Green Movement to Occupy. The exhibition explores, through the lens of several photojournalists, what lessons contemporary activists might take away from the popular movements demanding “democracy” and ” economic equality” that occurred around the world in the early 2000s: from Iran’s Green Revolution, the Arab Spring , and Occupy Wall Street. The exhibit is curated by UIC scholars and activists, Atef Said and Kaveh Rafie.
PUJA is located at 1344 S. Halsted St. Chicago, IL, 60607. The gallery is open to the public for exhibition tours and to UIC community members for meeting space. Call (312) 355-5922 for tours and appointments.
