March 13, 2025 marked the fifth anniversary of the death of Breonna Taylor, a 26 year-old Black woman and emergency room technician who was killed as she slept by Louisville police.

In conjunction with the Social Justice Initiative's current exhibition, Echoes of Ferguson, Chicago Justice Gallery curator Lola Ayisha Ogbara designed a program to remember Breonna Taylor, and to foster healing and introspection through music and art with performances by chamber ensemble D-Composed and flautist BSA Gold.

D-Composed presented a carefully curated selection of works by Black composers, infusing the Chicago Justice Gallery with melodies that echoed the depth of collective sorrow and hope. Their performance was intertwined with meditative practices, creating a sanctuary for over 50 attendees to engage with their emotions and reflect on the journey of resilience and transformation.

Journalist Jewél Jackson attended the performance, and published her experience in the article "Using Sound to Heal Community on the Fifth Anniversary of Breonna Taylor's Death" in South Side Weekly.
